Where should you buy a home near Fort Bragg?
The best place to buy near Fort Bragg depends on your budget, the gate you will use and the kind of home you want. From April to October 2026, Longleaf Pine MLS median sale prices were $280,000 in Hope Mills, $300,000 in Haymount (ZIP 28305), $309,990 in Spring Lake, $320,000 in Raeford and $324,900 in Cameron. Each area has different housing, taxes and drive patterns.
How do the areas near Fort Bragg compare on price?
Here are median sale prices from Longleaf Pine MLS for April to October 2026. The range in parentheses is the middle half of sales, which shows what most buyers in each area actually paid.
Hope Mills: $280,000 ($230,000 to $353,000)
Haymount, Fayetteville (ZIP 28305): $300,000 ($218,000 to $425,000)
Spring Lake: $309,990 ($225,000 to $351,440)
Raeford (Hoke County): $320,000 ($275,000 to $354,900)
Cameron: $324,900 ($276,400 to $409,000)
For comparison, the Cumberland County median was $249,000 for the 30 days before October 2026. That countywide number includes many lower-priced homes across Fayetteville, so a tight budget does not rule out living close to post. The time periods differ, so treat these as a guide, not a direct comparison.
Fayetteville and Haymount
Fayetteville is the largest city next to Fort Bragg, so it has the widest range of homes and prices. Haymount sits on the hill just west of downtown and has many older homes, some dating to the 1800s and early 1900s, along with mid-century houses. Its wide middle-half range, from $218,000 to $425,000, reflects that mix of ages and sizes.
Elsewhere in the city, the Raeford Road and Skibo Road corridors in west Fayetteville have subdivisions built over many decades, with shopping close by. North Fayetteville along Ramsey Street has seen growth as the I-295 Outer Loop was built. Inside city limits you pay county and city property taxes, about 94.85 cents per $100 of assessed value combined for July 2026 to June 2027, plus any fire or special district rates.
Hope Mills
Hope Mills is a town south of Fayetteville in Cumberland County, with its own town government and tax rate. It had the lowest median of these five areas at $280,000. Housing is a mix of established neighborhoods and newer subdivisions. I-295 now reaches the Hope Mills area, which links it to west Fayetteville and the post. When I tour homes in Hope Mills, I suggest driving the route to your gate at the hour you would actually leave for work, because the map estimate and the real drive can differ.
Spring Lake
Spring Lake is a Cumberland County town right next to Fort Bragg, so being close to post is the main draw. The middle half of sales ran from $225,000 to $351,440, which points to a mix of older, smaller homes and newer construction. Spring Lake has its own town tax rate on top of the county rate. Because it sits so close to post, homes there tend to draw steady rental interest if you later move on orders.
Raeford (Hoke County)
Raeford is southwest of Fort Bragg's main post, in Hoke County. That means a different county tax rate and a different school district than Fayetteville. Growth has been moving west toward Hoke County, and many homes there are in newer subdivisions. The middle half of sales, $275,000 to $354,900, is a narrower range than Haymount, which often reflects more homes of similar age and size.
Cameron
Cameron is north of Fort Bragg, and Cameron addresses cover parts of Harnett, Moore and Lee counties. It had the highest median of the five at $324,900, with the middle half from $276,400 to $409,000. Homes there often sit on larger lots in a more rural setting, and shopping can be a longer drive. During due diligence, check whether the home uses a well and septic system and have them inspected.
How long is the drive to Fort Bragg?
There is no single answer, so be wary of anyone who gives you an exact number of minutes. Your commute depends on:
Which gate you use. Fort Bragg covers about 251 square miles across four counties, and your unit's location matters as much as your home's.
Traffic on the main corridors. Bragg Boulevard, Yadkin Road and the Skibo and Raeford Road area can back up at peak times.
Time of day. Early morning reporting times and afternoon release can change the drive a lot.
The I-295 Fayetteville Outer Loop was completed on November 25, 2025. It runs 39 miles from I-95 near Eastover, across north Fayetteville to Fort Bragg, through west Fayetteville to the Hope Mills area, and back to I-95 near Parkton. The mayor said a cross-city trip that took 20 minutes now takes about 12. Still, test-drive your route at rush hour before you make an offer.
How do I check schools and crime data?
I do not rank neighborhoods by schools or label areas as better or worse. School assignments are set by address and can change, so check with the district directly using the exact address:
Cumberland County Schools for Fayetteville, Hope Mills and Spring Lake
Hoke County Schools for Raeford
Harnett County Schools, Moore County Schools or Lee County Schools for Cameron, depending on the address
For crime data, look at the official reports and maps from the Fayetteville Police Department or the sheriff's office for the county where the home sits. Then visit the area yourself at different times of day.
What else should I compare?
Your BAH. The 2026 Fort Bragg rate for an E-5 with dependents is $1,806 a month, and for an O-3 with dependents it is $2,175. Compare that to the full payment, including taxes and insurance.
Future rent. Fayetteville house rents had medians of $1,500 for 3 bedrooms and $2,075 for 4 or more (Rentometer, February 2026). Verified town-level rent data is not available for Spring Lake or Raeford; rents there generally track the Fayetteville figures and BAH, so ask for a rent analysis on the specific home.
HOA rules. Some homeowners associations limit rentals. Read the covenants during your due diligence period if you might rent the home out later.
Flood risk. Check flood maps for any home near creeks or low ground.
Frequently asked questions
What is the most affordable area to buy near Fort Bragg?
Of these five areas, Hope Mills had the lowest median at $280,000 from April to October 2026 (Longleaf Pine MLS). The Cumberland County median of $249,000 shows that lower-priced homes are also available across Fayetteville.
Did I-295 make commuting easier?

How do I find out which school a home is assigned to?
Contact the school district for that address: Cumberland, Hoke, Harnett, Moore or Lee County Schools. Assignments can change, so confirm before you buy.
Can I rent out my home if I PCS?
